The Masters in Public Health and the CEPH

Well over a couple of hundred universities in the United States have programs for the masters-level study of public health. The welfare and continued good health of the community is the primary intent of the training found in these masters in public health programs. If you are thinking of entering one of these courses, be sure to check for the accreditation of the CEPH.

For what does CEPH stand? Why should students look for accredited courses? CEPH is an accrediting organization that focuses specifically on public health courses.

When considering a school offering a master of public health program, be sure that the degree you are looking for is included in the accreditation. It is generally the case that specialized schools for the subject have all their programs accredited together. Of course, students should ask college authorities to find out if the program in which they are interested has received the accreditation.

Keep in mind that different accrediting bodies and accreditations exist. Programs with a specialization should have the CEPH accreditation, while others may be all right with just the regional one. Regional accreditation is concerned with a more general view of the body to be accredited.

The concentrated nature of the CEPH's accreditation makes it an excellent way to tell just how good the preparation in a program is. It can be compared to how there are accrediting institutions for other areas of specialization, like nursing. The Council on Education on Public Health is thus the accrediting organization recognized for public health colleges and courses.

The organization can accredit either a college or its courses, with different guidelines on how to go about it. Obviously, the difference is in the fact that a college can have a lot of degrees offered and a program is the sole offer in itself. It is expected that any public health college will have the 5 types of specializations for the field too.

For public health programs, they are only required to offer one MPH degree. This has not prevented many programs from providing a selection of focus options. It is generally demanded that any academy in this field offer a doctors-level degree as well.

The value of a degree that has CEPH accreditation on it is peerless. There are at least five primary foci from which students can pick theirs, including Behavioral Sciences and Health Education. It is convenient too for those seeking genuine mastery of their topic to go into accredited academies because they have the postgraduate studies on offer.

It is possible to ask your institution to assist in getting your credits transferred, among other things. Students who have performed well in their academies benefit a great deal from the aid of their academies later on. Once the student has graduated, he can even take the Public Health Certification exam.

Some of the best jobs in the field are also given only to those who have masters in public health diplomas from accredited programs or colleges. Governmental organizations for public health also make much of CEPH-accredited degrees. They are also eligible to student assistance resources that are offered only through accredited schools.
